Coal fire

The coalman used to have a job

Back in the day my grandma used coal to heat her rather large detached house in the midlands of England.

There was a coal bunker out the back that had a shute in the roof, just the right height for the coal truck that could reverse down the drive and park right next to said shute.

The coalman must have been well chuffed that the heavy sacks could be just emptied without leaving the back of the lorry.

I loved the coal house and sheds that went around it for together they were an awesome den for a 10-year-old, the backdrop for many a fantastic adventure, each an escape.

I grew up, my grandma passed and redevelopment means that the house is no more and the coal truck no longer has an easy delivery.
