Go with your gut and don’t overthink it.
How many times have people told you that? A thousand at least.
And it is true, the first instinct is often the right one.
If you have a half-decent moral compass and stick to a few good agreements, such as ‘don’t make assumptions’, then your gut will be a reliable guide.
If that feeling is ignored and the brain takes over then it is possible to call up logic circuits and mine reserves of experience to think it through only there is a hidden risk.
Engage the brain and the ego asserts its indefatigable right to join in.
The result is an inevitable erosion of instinct in favour of the third or fourth guess.
